petition100hawaiiarchive.jpgPosted 11:20 a.m. Wed., 01.20.10 - A new campaign committee, Let Voters Decide, was filed today with the Missouri Ethics Commission to get a measure on this year's statewide ballot that deals with urban earnings taxes in St. Louis and Kansas City. The group's proposal would require approval of the local residents every five years, to keep the tax in place. The effort is bankrolled by wealthy businessman-philanthropist Rex Sinquefield. Rex has a 'front-burner' obligation to say EXACTLY how cities are going to recover this revenue-replace these lost dollars. Until he does, ignore him.

There is no politcal solution to this. None. 100 referrendums will not solve the problem. Put the replacement revenue on the table.

Sinquefield will get all that money back and much more in all the taxes he will no longer have to pay.

mikado

The MIKADO has a little list … were you on it?

The St. Louis Beacon rang in 2012 with a concert performance of Gilbert & Sullivan's beloved operetta, "The Mikado," at the Sheldon Concert Hall, and the Higher Education Channel was on hand to record it. Here is a link to the complete perfomance, which we hope you'll enjoy.

The musical direction of "The Mikado" was by Amy Kaiser; Craig Terry was conductor-accompanist. All proceeds from ticket sales benefitted the Beacon.
