For more than 100 years, the department has been under state control, although the city pays the bills. (The setup stems from Missouri's Civil War divisions, where the state capital backed the conferency but the city of St. Louis preferred union forces.) State Rep. Jamila Nasheed, D-St. Louis, said today that she also is committed to making local control her top priority in the House. She reinterated her earlier belief that Republican House leaders also support the idea. |

The petition that should have been filed should have been filed
in court to recover the millions in ticket tax revenue the
Cardinals are keeping...after the City made this concession
based on the phony ballpark village deal.
And with the money, hire and train a few dozen more police
officers.
There are no political answers to protecting the people of
St. Louis and our rapidly decreasing number of visitors.
