Missouri's required 30-days-after-the-primary financial reports, were filed Thursday. They show Montee with $557,105.76 in the bank as of Aug. 31, compared to Schweich's $45,251.31. Schweich, a St. Louis lawyer and law professor, is cash-poor since he spent just over $1.2 million in his combative GOP primary contest against state Rep. Allen Icet, R-Wildwood. Schweich's report doesn't include the $50,000 he received Monday from prominent GOP donor David Humphreys. (An earlier version of this post said his tally included the Humphreys contribution; Schweich says his report covered donations only through Aug. 28, last Friday.)
Dooley also had outspent Corrigan by almost 2-to-1 prior to the Aug. 3 primary, although neither had a serious challenge for their parties' respective nominations. But one area Republican is in strong shape heading into the final two-month sprint -- 24th District state Senate nominee John Lamping (below), who reported $315,166.88 in the bank -- more than eight times the bank tally of Democratic nominee Barbara Fraser, who reported $45,313.24.
Here's the basic financial numbers, as of Aug. 28: STATE AUDITOR SCHWEICH Raised $1,280,141.45 Spent $1,203,184.71 On hand: $45,251.31 MONTEE Raised $815,245.72 Spent $253,160.44 On hand: $557,105.76 Debt (carryover from 2006 campaign): $515,000.00 ST. This Saturday was the debut of a new show by The Improv Shop that will bring out of town improv teams to St. Louis to play for — and with — a local audience. The Road Show brought teams "Everybody Grok" and "Felt" from Chicago.
We talked to Eric Christensen, producer of the Road Show and member of local improv team "Ted Dangerous"; Katie Nunn, member of "Ted Dangerous" and improv coach; and Melanie Penn and Ranjan Khan, members of local teams "Melanj" and "Magic Ratio"; about the St. Louis improv scene and why it's important to welcome teams from other cities to perform here.
St. Louis struggles with its promise to care for the poor
Many residents of St. Louis' most impoverished neighborhoods suffer preventable illness at rates that far exceed those of people who live in more affluent ZIP codes. This story is part of a larger look at health disparities in the region, our series Worlds Apart.

The St. Louis Beacon rang in 2012 with a concert performance of Gilbert & Sullivan's beloved operetta, "The Mikado," at the Sheldon Concert Hall, and the Higher Education Channel was on hand to record it. Here is a link to the complete perfomance, which we hope you'll enjoy.
The musical direction of "The Mikado" was by Amy Kaiser; Craig Terry was conductor-accompanist. All proceeds from ticket sales benefitted the Beacon.
