thune100johnsd.jpgmartin100ed.jpgU.S. Sen. John Thune (left), R-S.D., and who made his mark when he knocked off a prominent Democratic incumbent -- will be in town next Monday to help local Republican congressional candidate Ed Martin (right), who hopes to do the same against Democratic incumbent Russ Carnahan.

Thune, of course, is known for his 2004 victory over then-Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., who was the Senate minority leader at the time (and had been the majority leader during the period in 2003-4 when Democrats controlled the Senate.)

mcarthur100sign.jpgAccording to Martin's campaign, Thune will visit the Lemay bakery of prominent Martin supporters Randy and Dave McArthur, who are ardent opponents of the cap-and-trade energy bill that the U.S. House passed (with Carnahan's support) last summer.

The McArthur brothers gained national attention when they displayed their ire at Carnahan on their electronic sign outside the bakery (file photos).

Thune opposes the bill, which so far has been blocked in the Senate and has not come up for a vote.

Thune is meeting with Martin and the bakery brothers at their Lemay location, 3055 Lemay Ferry Road,  next Monday around 8 a.m.

'The Road Show' improv

Brent Jones | St. Louis Beacon

This Saturday was the debut of a new show by The Improv Shop that will bring out of town improv teams to St. Louis to play for — and with — a local audience. The Road Show brought teams "Everybody Grok" and "Felt" from Chicago.

We talked to Eric Christensen, producer of the Road Show and member of local improv team "Ted Dangerous"; Katie Nunn, member of "Ted Dangerous" and improv coach; and Melanie Penn and Ranjan Khan, members of local teams "Melanj" and "Magic Ratio"; about the St. Louis improv scene and why it's important to welcome teams from other cities to perform here.
