Smoking Gun tweaks Harold Ford's mandates for appearance at Northwest Missouri State Print E-mail
By Jo Mannies, Beacon Political Reporter

ford100harold.jpgPosted 3:40 p.m. Fri., 02.05.10 --The gossip Web site "Smoking Gun'' has gotten ahold of the two-page contract for this week's appearance of former U.S. Rep. Harold Ford, D-Tenn., at Northwest Missouri State University.

The contract's addendum is most interesting. No word as to whether similar instructions accompanied his appearance a few months ago at Washington University.

Ford, of course, is in the news now because he has been testing the waters for a possible U.S. Senate bid in New York state.  As a result, his appearance at Northwest Mo. -- and an apparent reporting goof by a local news outlet covering his speech -- is garnering national attention.

The Independence Center is much more than its public face: The Upscale Resale shop on Forest Park. David Weinberg tells the story of the center and the people who join the clubhouse and find a place where they are helped put together lives that have been disrupted by mental illness. Barroom Conversations

The St. Louis Beacon sponsors weekly conversations on race, related to the publication's year-long special coverage of issues and situations related to race in the St. Louis region. The lightly-moderated discussions begin with a specific topic, but like all good conversations, veer off in different and rewarding directions. The general topic now is "Finding Common Ground." The Barroom Conversations begin at 7:30 p.m. every Monday in the Half-Pint Room, to the left of the lobby at the Schlafly Brewery and Taproom at 22nd and Locust. Everyone is welcome.
