In the first formal debate featuring candidates for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate from Missouri, U.S. Rep. Todd Akin and former Treasurer Sarah Steelman clashed over earmarks and a 2003 bill expanding prescription drug coverage. But for the hour-long debate,  sponsored by KTRS radio and the St. Louis Beacon,  the candidates mostly steered clear of criticizing each other and showcased similar views.
