Ethics Commission dismisses complaint against Temporiti Print E-mail

temporiti100john.jpgPosted 2:10 p.m. Tues., 03.16.10 -  The Missouri Ethics Commission said the complaint filed by the Missouri GOP about John Temporiti's acting as a lobbyist when he was not registered as one was unsubstantiated. The GOP insists it's valid; Temporiti said it's another example of untruths from the Corrigan campaign.
 
Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell to headline Missouri Democratic Party's Jefferson Jackson dinner Print E-mail

Ed Rendell will be the keynote speaker at this year's Jefferson Jackson dinner to be held at 7 p.m., Fri., March 19 at the Renaissance Grand Hotel downtown. Missouri's state Democratic leaders will also be in attendance, including Gov. Jay Nixon, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, state Auditor Susan Montee, state Treasurer Clint Zweifel and Attorney General Chris Koster.
 
Missouri Bar denies it has spent any money in opposition to ballot proposal Print E-mail

ShowMe Better Courts contends in a complaint that the Bar should have filed reports with the commission detailing its spending against ShowMe Better Courts' initiative petition drive for a proposal to get rid of the state's appointive system for selecting judges in Missouri's urban areas and on the higher courts, including the state Supreme Court. Roy Blunt may be from southwest Missouri, but he and other state Republicans apparently believe the fate of his Republican bid for the U.S. Senate may rest with his election performance in St. Louis County. Blunt has set up his statewide campaign headquarters in Sunset Hills, in the same building that now houses a new satellite office for the state Republican Party. The new quarters signal the GOP's push to snag more county votes.

 
Area officials to kick off on Monday the national census count Print E-mail

census100logo2010.jpgPosted 4:30 p.m. Fri., 03.12.10 - St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay and St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley will officially kick off on Monday the 2010 Census, as forms begin to arrive in area mailboxes. Political leaders have a lot riding on the national count, since it will determine how congressional seats are allocated and how state legislative districts are drawn -- and how much federal money will be doled out to the state and its communities for various programs.

The two cities are joining forces in an effort to kill an initiative petition drive that could repeal the 1 percent tax.

The St. Louis Beacon sponsors weekly conversations on race, related to the publication's year-long special coverage of issues and situations related to race in the St. Louis region. The lightly-moderated discussions begin with a specific topic, but like all good conversations, veer off in different and rewarding directions. The general topic now is "Finding Common Ground." The Barroom Conversations begin at 7:30 p.m. every Monday in the Half-Pint Room, to the left of the lobby at the Schlafly Brewery and Taproom at 22nd and Locust. Everyone is welcome.
