Bruce Conner, whose assemblages of found footage, end-rolls and other cinematic detritus made him one of the central figures of experimental/ underground film in the 1960s, has died at the age of 74.

News reports and obits will undoubtedly appear throughout the day (as of 6 a.m., The New York Times hasn't run anything, and the announcement in Conner's hometown San Francisco Chronicle , but Movie City Indie has the most complete coverage, with eight samples of Conner's work, including "A Movie," the 1958 film that launched his artistic reputation, and "America Is Waiting," a late-'70s music video produced for David Byrne and Brian Eno.
