"Up the Yangtze," which details the human cost of China's Three Gorges Dam, never quite rises to its full potential.

The new documentary "Up the Yangtze," now playing at the Tivoli, tells the human side of the largest hydroelectric project in the world, China's Three Gorges Dam. It is written and directed by a Chinese-Canadian, Yung Chang, whose grandfather told him stories of the old China. Though a real eye-opener, it falls well short of its potential.

A Texas trial lawyer, who was finance chairman of John Edwards' presidential campaign, has admitted to the Dallas Morning News that he made payments to Edwards' mistress to get her out of North Carolina. The lawyer, Fred Baron, said the money was his own, but news reports raised questions about the use of campaign funds.

Bin Laden's driver gets light sentence - 66 months Print E-mail

A military panel has sentenced Salim Hamdan, Osama bin Laden's driver, to 66 months in prison - about half the typical federal court sentence for the crime.  Hamdan would be released soon unless the government makes good on the threat to continue holding him as an illegal enemy combatant.
