Ruling means Missouri cannot bar registered sex offenders from "Halloween-related contact" with children and from leaving home between 5 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Halloween except for "just cause," such as a job or a medical emergency. A federal judge said the law's wording was too vague.

Will Justice Department challenge Ohio voters? Print E-mail

One important development to watch is whether the Justice Department intervenes in the Ohio voters registration dispute to challenge 200,000 voters whose names don't match other state databases.  If the Justice Department enters the Ohio case, there could be an important impact on the presidential campaign and the votes in battleground states.

A federal appeals court granted a last-minute stay to delay the execution of Troy Davis, a Georgia man whose claim of innocence has become an international cause celebre. Most of the witnesses who testified that he had murdered a police officer have since recanted; new witnesses have fingered another man.

Regardless of your voting preferences, this short film from something called “The Landline” gets a few laughs by parodying the styles of three contemporary directors (John Woo, Kevin Smith and Wes Anderson), if they were to make political ads for McCain. The comment page seems to favor the Anderson bit, but I thought the Smith nod was funnier.
