Back to the spillway: Residents of the Birds Point-New Madrid floodway must decide where to live now
DORENA, Mo. - Ruben "Brother" Bennett, 88, was just down the road from his flood-wrecked home on this hot afternoon checking out a new place to live. There aren't many housing options in the 130,000-acre Birds Point-New Madrid floodway, since the Army Corps of Engineers intentionally breached the levee at Birds Point on May 2.
