McCaskill is a 'Ready for Hillary' backer

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill on Tuesday became the first member of Congress to endorse a “Ready for Hillary” super PAC that wants former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to run for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016. Clinton has not said whether she will run. McCaskill has made it clear for months that she wants Clinton to run.

Pressure builds as Senate opens marathon immigration debate

The Senate's long-anticipated debate on immigration reform began this week with U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin calling on proponents to rally around the "Group of Eight" plan, U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt saying he had "serious concerns" related to border security, and the White House stepping up the public pressure to alter immigration laws.

Armed Services panel backs military justice reforms on sexual violence

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill hailed Senate Armed Services action Wednesday on legal reforms related to sexual violence in the military as "the strongest system we can devise" to bolster prosecutions. The panel adopted some provisions that McCaskill had pushed and rejected a more draconian measure by Sen. Gillibrand that would have completely removed commanders from the process.

Durbin calls for renewed debate on limits of government surveillance

While President Barack Obama defended government surveillance programs Friday, his friend and frequent ally U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin -- who has long argued for more limits on post-9/11 Patriot Act -- said this week that "this important debate must begin again" in the wake of what he called “disturbing” revelations of widespread National Security Agency scrutiny of telephone records.

GOP members of Congress tie state's reliance on coal to debate over climate change, EPA

Environmentalists recently protested outside U.S. Rep. Ann Wagner's local office about her views on climate change, which she says involve “inconsistent and unsound science.” Wagner and all of Missouri's other Republican members of Congress, have raised questions about possible EPA regulations.
