Akin tries to outflank other GOP Senate candidates on same-sex marriage issue
President Barack Obama's support for gay marriage has swiftly become an issue in Missouri's hot U.S. Senate contest, with U.S. Rep. Todd Akin, R-Wildwood, calling the president's stance “a campaign prop to advance the liberal agenda." Akin succeeded in getting an amendment approved in a defense bill that would allow military chaplains and others to openly criticize gay and lesbian lifestyles.
