Diana Ahmad, a professor of history at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, says the animals didn’t just help the settlers survive the journey to the West in the mid 1800s, they helped provide companionship. Se expands on that relationship in a book that will be published next year.

Falling temperatures cool football preseason heat worries

August's cooldown is a relief for high school football teams, whose preseason practices began earlier this month. Forty high school football players have died from heat stroke in the last 17 years, a fact that has led area high school football coaches to change the way they practice.

Race will support Micah project in Honduras

Three area women waiting for their Honduran adoptions to go through have organized a Labor Day race to benefit the Micah project. The project is a Christian charity supporting and housing about 25 boys in the Honduran capital of Tegucigalpa.
