Oktoberfest celebration brings German culture close to home
Celebrate German culture at the St. Louis-Stuttgart Sister Cities, Inc. (SLSSC) organization’s annual Oktoberfest event on Sunday, Sept. 23, from 1 to 5 p.m.
The event, which features a family-style pig roast and music from local German rock band Übercool, will take place at a private estate, at 900 Coal Bank Road in Spanish Lake. Guests who bring their own German side dish are eligible to win SLSSC prizes, including a ticket to the organization’s Winter Ball event.
SLSSC is an international and civic organization whose aim is to encourage multicultural experiences through cultural events, student exchanges and business trade missions. A portion of the funds raised at this event will go toward the organization’s scholarships and educational grants, which enable students, educators and business interns to study abroad.
Tickets for the Oktoberfest event are $40 a person, $10 for children 12 and younger, and guests must RSVP to SLSSC treasurer Traude Wilson by Sept. 15 at 314-550-6439 or by email at traude@travelplex.com.
“Whether you’re of German heritage, or you just enjoy an entertaining cultural festival, Oktoberfest is always a great family-friendly event!” said Susanne Evens, president of SLSSC, in a press release.
