Boehner headlines public event for Plummer, private gathering for Wagner

U.S. House Speaker John Boehner apparently stopped by a private event Monday afternoon for Ann Wagner of Ballwin, the Republican nominee for Missouri’s 2nd congressional district.
Earlier, Boehner had headlined a public breakfast event in Fairview Heights for Republican congressional nominee Jason Plummer, who’s competing against Democrat Bill Enyart in Illinois’ 12th District. Democratic incumbent Jerry Costello isn’t running for re-election.

Wagner hadn’t mentioned the Boehner appearance during her public event Monday morning in Affton to promote U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan’s selection as the running mate to presumed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
In a statement later, Wagner’s campaign announced the visit and cited praise she had received from the speaker during the private gathering. The release doesn’t say when or where it was held, how many people attended, or if it was a fund-raising event.
The statement did say that Boehner’s closed-door visit was among “40 events over the next 35 days to help embattled incumbents and new candidates across the country as Republicans seek to grow the majority this November.”

At Plummer's event, news accounts indicate that the speaker also praised Ryan.
