Belleville Salvation Army to distribute new clothes to needy children
Children under 12 from needy families in St. Clair County will get a little help from the Salvation Army before they go back to school.
Each child will be given a new outfit and a gift certificate for new shoes by the Belleville chapter of the Salvation Army under its Dress an Angel program.
Sign-ups for the program will be held on July 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on July 26 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Belleville Salvation Army, located at 20 Glory Place, Belleville. The clothes and gift certificates will then be distributed on Aug. 4.
“With the economy in transition and unemployment still high, many are struggling to make ends meet,” said Anita Sells of the Belleville Worship and Community Center in a press release. “Gas prices are on the rise again as are rents and utilities. Families are struggling with their regular day-to-day expenses and this is our way to help them to put their children’s educational interests first.”
