High school students have a night for 'Dreams' at Muny
On the second to last night of “Dreamgirls” at The Muny, 10 students from McCluer High School joined their teacher for a trip from the small stage to the big one. Last spring, the students staged their own production of “Dreamgirls,” which helped the cast win $150,000 in scholarship money. The production was funded with a grant from Martiz Art and Education Fund for Teachers, and the students were invited to The Muny, to step backstage and meet the stars by the Arts and Education Council. Staging a production like “Dreamgirls” was a challenge, said Dereis Lambert, 17.
“At the end of the day, we all put our egos aside and we all came together for a common goal.”
“And we were a family,” agreed Adrienne Thompson, 17.
