Opening Day in St. Louis

Cardinals pre-game pep rally

10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lot across from Busch Stadium, at the corner of Clark Street and South Broadway (the Ballpark Village site).

Trixie Delight, a local rock band, will perform from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Fredbird will give away opening day tickets, autographed items and prizes.

Busch Stadium

11:45 a.m. Gates open.

1:30 p.m. The Budweiser Clydesdales kick off pre-game ceremonies.

Dignitaries will include Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon, St. Louis County Executive Charlie A. Dooley and St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay.

The traditional motorcade around the warning track will introduce Cardinals Hall-of-Famers and current team members.

The Cardinals’ latest four World Series trophies will be escorted onto the field by members of those teams: Mike Shannon (1967), Tommy Herr (1982), David Eckstein and Jim Edmonds (2006), Tony La Russa and Dave Duncan (2011).

The family of U.S. Army Specialist Jeffrey L. White Jr. of Catawissa, Mo., will raise the 2011 World Series banner in left field. White died April 3 in Afghanistan. He was home on leave for Game 7 of the World Series and had planned to attend opening day with his family.

The American bald eagle is from the World Bird Sanctuary of St. Louis.

There will be a moment of silence for former Cardinals pitcher Bob Forsch.

The national anthem will be sung by Shannon Magrane, a former contestant on “American Idol.”

Those two U.S. Air Force jets flying overhead? F-16s.

2:15 p.m. Game time. (Please cheer loudly for the Chicago Cubs; they will deserve your applause after sitting through all of this.)

Bag inspection

All bags will be inspected; the maximum size is 16 inches by 16 inches by 8 inches. Small personal cameras are allowed but not professional photo equipment. Nonalcoholic beverages in open cups or clear plastic bottles are allowed to be carried in; alcoholic beverages, cans, thermoses, hard-sided coolers are not.

MoDOT will have no lane closures on state highways inside the city limits for opening day weekend.
