Ride and Walk of Silence
Trailnet is hosting a Ride and Walk of Silence on May 16
According to a press release, this "is an international event that honors cyclists that have been killed and injured; raises awareness of cyclists on the road; and appeals to all to share the road. Trailnet has added a Walk of Silence to our local events to honor pedestrians that have been killed or injured."
The event will start (and finish) at three locations:
- the Missouri History Museum, Lindell Blvd. at DeBaliviere Ave., 63112
- O'Fallon Family Sports Park, 301 Oberneufemann Rd., O'Fallon, Ill. 62269
- Frontier Park (south end, near the Veteran's Memorial), 500 S Riverside Dr., St. Charles, 63301
People are asked to gather between 5:15 and 6 p.m., during which there will be remembrances and safety awareness programs. At 6 p.m., memorials will be held for Jennifer Cole, Sam Scott and the many others killed or injured in collisions with automobiles. The silent ride and silent walk start at 6:15 p.m.
As the release says, "The Ride of Silence and Walk of Silence are free events. Cyclists are asked to ride no faster than 12 mph, wear helmets, follow the rules of the road, remain silent during the ride, and bring lights as the ride will end near dusk. The ride is 10 miles long. The walk routes are yet to be determined but they will be under 3 miles and will also be conducted in silence. There are no sponsors and no registration fees."
